My First Entry

I have never blogged before, so here goes.

I am a townie, in that I grew up in Tullamore. I have been living just outside Ballinagar since 2000 in the country. In 2015 myself and my wife had this mad idea to set up an Alpaca Farm. To be perfectly honest, I don't know where the idea of alpacas came from. So I contacted an alpaca farmer I didn't even know existed, who lives less than ten miles away from me. Since the first time I visited Hushabye Farm Alpacas in July 2015, I could not get the idea of those animals around my house, out of my head, in a good way.

So I began fencing (something I had never done before) and I sourced a man who made clothesline sheds. These are perfect for alpacas because they have space to move arouund and they still have full view around them while in shelter.

Therefore, it goes to prove that anybody can become an alpaca farmer, once you have a grá for the animals and like being outdoors.

Our two ladies, Apollo and Astra, are nearing their time to give birth and this will be my next big adventure into farming. Again, something I have never witnessed - an animal giving birth.
